The advent of T+1 – and what it means for the global investment industry – Roundtable discussion

Thursday 25th April 2024

Location: CISI, 20 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 8AF

Time: 15:00 for 15:30 – 17:30 followed by refreshments

Supporting partner trade organisations: CISI, ISITC Europe, IA, PIMFA and the SIO

For the past nine months, a group of gurus from the securities and investment world have been gathering almost every Friday at noon for a discussion on industry progress towards accelerated settlement, catalysed by the North American shunt to T+1 planned for May this year. The report from the Accelerated Settlement Taskforce, launched by the Chancellor in December 2022 and chaired by Charlie Geffen, was finally published just before Easter. A special in-person roundtable to discuss what this will likely mean for the global investment industry is now being hosted by the CISI on 25 April at CISI HQ.

The Friday team, which is led by Gary Wright, Director of ISITC Europe, will be joined by ISITC Europe, Policy Head Anthony Freeman, Alan Burr, Chartered FCSI(Hon), of the CISI Operations Forum Committee, Alex Chow, Investment Operations Policy Lead at The Investment Association, Kevin Sloane FCSI, Senior Policy Adviser at PIMFA, and online, Richard Leigh, Programme Director at Scottish Investment Operations.

Our special guest will be Andrew Douglas, Former Managing Director of Government Relations for EMEA and Asia at The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and currently Chairman of the Technical Taskforce established by the Treasury to take the initial Charlie Geffen report forward and to find areas that needs change. This could be both technology and regulatory but will be industry wide. Andrew will update on the workings so far of the Technology Task Force and lay out what’s going to happen this year and next. He will likely talk about creating a T+1 capability in the industry in 2025 as a precursor to regulatory enforcement in 2027.

This is a very timely inaugural event in a series for our industry on one of the biggest structural changes this century.

Places are very limited and subject to confirmation.
